Search terms spending without converting alert
Find the searches that cost at least an amount you set without a single conversion.
Some searches keep getting clicks and never turn into a sale or a lead. Each click is small, so they are easy to miss, but over a month they add up. This alert finds those searches and emails you a list, most expensive first.
How it decides
Each run reads the search terms report over your chosen date range, ending yesterday. A search is reported when, within one campaign, it meets both of these:
- It cost at least the Minimum cost you set, in the account currency.
- It brought in no conversions at all. A fraction of a conversion counts as a conversion, so a search with 0.2 conversions from data driven attribution is spared.
Minimum clicks comes on top of that, so a single expensive click is not taken for a pattern.
A search is judged on its total across the whole campaign, so a conversion in any of the campaign's ad groups spares it. Today is left out because today's clicks have had no time to convert yet.
A good Minimum cost is about what you are willing to pay for one conversion. A search that has cost that much without one is unlikely to start paying off.
What it skips
- Searches you already acted on. A search already added as a keyword or already excluded is left out.
- Searches a campaign negative keyword already blocks.
Whether a search matches one of your keywords plays no part. A search that matches a keyword perfectly is still reported if it never converts.
What you get
The run report lists each search with its campaign, cost and clicks. You get an email when a search shows up that was not in the last alert, so a search that keeps bleeding does not email you every day.
The alert does not change your account. To stop paying for a search, add it as a negative keyword in Google Ads.
Settings
Filters restricts the alert to campaigns and ad groups whose name contains some text. Leave them empty to include everything.
Date range sets how many days of search term history each run reads. A longer range gives a search more time to convert before it is reported.
Thresholds holds the minimum cost and the minimum clicks.
